Dr. Dr. Princess
by Red ~ April 23rd, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized. It is official. After 5 years at Rutgers and a combined 22 years for formal schooling, Mary is finally ready to graduate! Yesterday afternoon Mary defended her dissertation at Rutgers and, as expected, she was successful in her defense! Word on the street is that the examiners were so impressed that they had to debate whether to give her an A or an A+! Her work, a study on the WTO, was accepted as a groundbreaking piece of research. Not only was Mary successful in her defense, but she also learned that she will be receiving the 2009 Graduate Student Excellence Award in Global Affairs — a huge honor! Needless to say, it was an all around banner week for Mary. And I do mean that literally. Elliott hung congratulatory banners and streamers throughout the house. We love Elliott.
I would post a photo of the princess if I had my camera with me. Unfortunately I’m stuck at work and so, alas, you’ll just have to imagine her pretty face, smiling, while she struggles to hold her dissertation (the document was over 1200 pages).
In other news, Mary and I are off to my cousin’s wedding tomorrow in Dallas (as if I haven’t spent enough time in Texas lately)! Given Mary’s successes and Elizabeth’s wedding, we have some serious celebrating to do this weekend! ;)
Love,
Red

Golly, Red, the news just gets better and better. The most amazing part of it is that I am not the least bit amazed! All this seems exactly what should be happening as that gal gets her sheepskin. And I get to say that I was there, sort of, at the beginning. And who knows what mountains she will be climbing in the future!
