One day down, one to go
by Mary ~ July 29th, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized.Inquiring minds want to know how Day 1 of the bar exam went, so I will just do this instead.
The short answer is: fine.
For those of you who would like more drama, Red and I flew to Seattle this weekend to see the very beautiful and fun wedding of Miles and Hannah. Let’s just say, it took at LEAST two hours of solid dancing to get me out of my funk. You see, I hit the studying wall a few weeks ago and was starting to panic that I could not will myself to study, no matter how many hours I dedicated to sitting there. Plus, I found a WRINKLE above my right eyebrow, and we all know this is unacceptable!
I have also been suffering some pretty wicked bad insomnia on account of the stress (thank you, Dr. Reilly, for introducing me to the glories of Ambien), so let’s just say, RED has not had a good few weeks. Anyway, it took monumental efforts on his part to get me to smile, but finally, everything clicked.
We celebrated our six year wedding anniversary sleeping a full 15 hours, which is unheard of for both of us. I also got to spend the day with my family, which put everything back into perspective. Time with loved ones is very precious, and it made me count my blessings. I should also mention that one of my favorite aunts died last week, which is a major bummer (but I intend to remain in denial of this fact until tomorrow around 6 p.m.)
Anyway, we landed back in NY around 9 p.m. Sunday (our flight was delayed) and Red caught the next flight back to D.C. I went home alone and “pretended” to study on Monday. Truthfully, I mostly stared into space.
I took a sleeping pill and passed out at midnight, only to wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 5 a.m. It was like the movies where you wake up with a giant gasp, realizing that today is really it. After almost puking from stress in the shower, I decided to do the only thing I could think of to calm me down. Yes, at 7 a.m., I watched the Colbert Report, which made me laugh out loud and feel much better about everything.
I then took a visit to my favorite watering hole (Starbucks) and ambled to the glorious city of New York. There were five essays (40 minutes each), one multistate essay (90 minutes) and 50 multiple choice questions. Tomorrow is the multistate exam, which consists of 200 multiple questions.
Anyway, that’s it. Nothing too exciting to share. Red comes home (for good this time) on Thursday and then my sister Sharon comes Friday. Then Saturday we all take off for a 10 day sailing trip in the British Virgin Islands. I am also intentionally keeping this fact out of my mind until tomorrow at 6 p.m., but I do look forward to the time off.
Overall, the summer was not that bad.
Before I sign out, I have to share two pieces of very exciting news to me. First of all, Bruce and Tamar Mar (yes, Tamarmar) are going to be welcoming their second child, whom I have already named Minnie, as in Minimar.
Secondly, one of my dearest friends, Ragan Mooney, is expecting baby #2. This is quite a pleasant surprise as many of you may have heard that it took her and Steve almost five years to have their son, Noah. Anyway, I am very pleased about this news and happy to finally get to TELL EVERYONE!!!
So that’s what you get from me. Like I said, Mary K will be back online (with full photos) in August.
See you then!
